A proper evaluation is required but sleeping pain, pain while sitting, difficulty in getting up after sitting or sleeping and if he feels better after walking few steps is suggestive of problems due to muscles at the hip. For it to be a joint problem, pain must reduce on sleeping or resting.
Next Steps
make him sit in a good posture and at a good height so that sit to stand becomes less stressful.
