Pain and swelling in hand

Asked for Female, 34 Years

My wife has a pain and swelling in palms and fingers with feeling of numbness and the pain radiates back to upper arm. She gets relief with ice compression and rest but any movement of hand again starts the problem. This started with right hand some 6 months back and was cured with rest and now again developed in right hand as well as left hand. Please advise.

This pain is because of the nerve compression at the neck region(cervical area). it generally occurs due to the manual exertion, prolonged forward neck bending, prolonged travelling, repeated manual activities and table work/paper work/ studies/computer work even using mobile for a long time and sometimes wearing heavy clothes specially collared one.

Next Steps

Go to a physiotherapist.. TENS+heat therapy+traction(may required) along with the cervical strengthening exercises for almost 2-3 weeks will help you for sure.

At home..rest +use cervical collar+keep your neck straight+sit tall+ avoid travelling /driving+no manual exertion.
