Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
My husband is suffering from OCD. It is becoming very difficult for me to understand his behavior. The treatment is going on in the form of counselling sessions & medicines but no changes. I want to know that is this disorder lifelong ?? As i read that with proper treatment things can be controlled but if medicines are stopped this becomes worse.

Your information is partially correct. Most patients of obsessive compulsive disorder require medications along with psychotherapy. The medications are prescribed for a long time, and are usually not stopped unless causing significant side effects. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder has a waxing and waning course, that usually lasts their entire lives. However, with medicines and psychotherapy, obsessions and compulsions can be very well controlled, sometimes even eliminated. Good luck.

Fear of contamination, excess hand washing, checking, anxiety and irritability are some of the features of OCD. It is advisable to go to a psychiatrist for proper assessment and diagnosis. They will be able to assess him properly and treat accordingly. Without going to a psychiatrist it is not possible to confirm the diagnosis or start any treatment. Consult a psychiatrist at the earliest. The best treatment is a combination of medication and behavioral therapy.
Next Steps
Medication does take some time to show effects so be patient and don't give up treatment. If medication is stopped before achieving some recovery or resolution of symptoms, it is likely that his symptoms will worsen. Do not make any changes or discontinue his medication. It is anticipated that with medication and counseling he will improve. You may contact me for further management if required.
