This is a very common problem in IT professionals. Due to a lot of screen on time and constant laptop posture, You neck muscles get tired and start giving you pain. This needs to be checked by a physiotherapist and you need to be taught Ergonomics so that it does not occur again and again. Root cause is at your workplace, So I would recommend to work on the root cause rather than just applying some ointment or ice to feel better temporarily. Take Care👍

Since you are working in IT. You must be having a habit of sitting for long time in one position . Because of that your neck and upper back muscles go into fatigue... And becomes stiff and causes postural pain. So my opinion for you is correction of posture in the following way- Avoid the long sitting in one posture, Frequent position change, Sit with upper back and neck support for sometime, Avoid forward neck posture., Your neck should be in neutral position while sleeping in any posture, for example if you  sleep in supine position avoid big size pillow.. Only the size which keep your neck straight, whereas in side posture.. Take big  size pillow to keep the neck straight.

Proper posture is important to avoid pains, you might have compression of nerve root which is giving you radiating pain. Do apply hot pack twice a day, stretching exercises every morning will be helpfull.
