I had a injury while doing squats in gym and got pain in neck as the bar was on neck(which is wrong position) and that's why I got pain in mech and back of head.
Pain went way after a week, but still I felt that while doing exercise and consulted physiotherapist.
Some starting 6-7 sessions were fine, they gave me 15-15 minutes sessions of two oscillating vibrations.
Followed by neck exercises. All was going good.
But once they did cupping and then physical release of knots and massage through physio gun.
After a day my pain increased significantly and went to hands also. Earlier there was no pain in hands(upper side shoulder)
Is this normal?
Or any nerve has compressed?
I am not able to understand that is treatment going in right direction?

Pain increasing after cupping, deep release & physio gun is NOT normal.
Likely nerve irritation (cervical nerve sensitization), not necessarily permanent compression.
What to do now:
• Stop aggressive therapy immediately (cupping / deep massage / physio gun)
• Continue only gentle exercises & posture correction
• Use mild heat 10–15 mins, Tens
Pain going to hand suggests nerve involvement, so treatment needs to be modified.
If pain, tingling or numbness in hand persists → proper reassessment required.
I can guide you with a safe step-by-step recovery protocol 👍

Good afternoon. Based on your history, the initial neck injury during squats appears to have improved with basic physiotherapy. However, the sudden increase in pain radiating towards the hands after cupping, deep tissue release, and use of a physio gun suggests possible irritation or sensitization of cervical structures, including muscles or nearby nerve roots.
While mild soreness after manual therapy can be normal, a significant increase in pain with radiation to the upper limb is not typically expected and should be taken seriously. It may indicate that the intensity of treatment was excessive or not well tolerated by your tissues at that stage.
I would advise you to temporarily avoid aggressive manual therapies and focus on gentle, pain-free exercises, posture correction, and controlled rehabilitation. A detailed reassessment is important to rule out any nerve involvement and to modify the treatment plan accordingly.
If symptoms persist or worsen, especially with tingling, numbness, or weakness in the arm, kindly seek immediate evaluation. Early and appropriate management will help in safe and effective recovery.

Pause aggressive therapies
⢠Avoid cupping, deep tissue release, physio gun for now
2. Focus on calming the nerve
⢠Gentle neck movements (pain-free range)
⢠Nerve gliding exercises (only under guidance)
3. Pain management
⢠Ice (if sharp/inflammatory pain)
⢠Heat (if stiffness dominant)
4. Posture correction
⢠Avoid forward head posture
⢠No heavy lifting or gym for now
5. Consultation
⢠Revisit physiotherapist or orthopedic doctor
⢠You may need clinical assessment for cervical nerve irritation
Next Steps
Itâs likely irritation, not damage, but continuing the same treatment can worsen it. Early correction will prevent chronic nerve issues.
No that is not normal, first you should go for MRI scan, that give us proper vision of injury and after that we can make a proper treatment plan for 1 month
Please don't play with this condition because it is very sensitive spinal part.you should take expertise guidance like neuro therapist
Next Steps
you should go for proper diagnosis

Hello,
Your injury likely occurred due to incorrect bar placement during squats, which can strain the cervical muscles and surrounding structures. Since your symptoms improved earlier with physiotherapy, the treatment was likely helping.
Sometimes after cupping, trigger point release, or physiotherapy gun therapy, there can be temporary muscle irritation, which may increase pain for a short time. However, if the pain has started radiating to the shoulder or arm, it may indicate cervical nerve irritation.
Next Steps
I would recommend: • Avoid gym and heavy neck activities for a few days
• Maintain proper neck posture
• Apply hot fomentation for 10–15 minutes 2–3 times daily
• Do gentle neck exercises only if they are pain-free
If the arm pain, tingling, or numbness continues, consult an orthopedic doctor or physiotherapist for proper evaluation. Sometimes imaging like X-ray or MRI of the cervical spine may be required.
With proper rest and guided rehabilitation, most cases improve well.
Hello dear It seems that you stop continuing physiotherapy treatment and take proper rest with cervical collar
Take some medication prescribed by any orthopedic doctor then do physiotherapy again
For more information feel free to consult with me
Hey there!
I think it’s a gym injury. It needs collaborative approach of orthopedic doctor and physiotherapist. It’s an acute injury. Apply ice pack. Rest for few days. For better diagnosis kindly contact me and meet an orthopedic doctor physically.

It looks like a inflamatory reaction
After every injury, muscle recovery will take approximately a month with proper rehabilitation, but your pain will go one or two days or in a week, depending on the sevearity
The pain is just a symptom but your root problem need time for recovery
they did some trigger release so you had a protective spasm due to that you had a nerve irritation defenitly that will go with proper postion and safe movement
no wories you will be perfectly alright keep continue the rehabilitation

Greetings from Rid of Pain Physiotherapy
You need complete and proper assessment to identify the cause. As u said about the pain, it can be muscular problem/ compression / soreness after release of muscles.
So better if you consult the best expert physiotherapist near.
Stop any deep tissue massage, cupping, or "physio gun" work on the neck area for now. These can sometimes aggravate an underlying disc issue or sensitive nerve.
As suggested by other specialists, an MRI of the Cervical Spine is the gold standard here. It will help determine if there is a disc bulge or nerve compression that was aggravated by the treatment. For the next 48 hours, use cold packs to reduce inflammation
Next Steps
Take online physiotherapy consultation for proper assessors need to check some clinical movements
Health Tips
Avoid heavy lifting or squats that place a bar on your upper back/neck until you have a clear diagnosis.
