Yes, it is generally recommended to confirm eradication of H. pylori after treatment, especially at your age and with symptoms like weight loss, reduced appetite, fullness, and gastritis history. Even if symptoms have improved significantly, the infection can sometimes persist silently. The preferred tests to confirm removal are: • Urea breath test • Stool H. pylori antigen test These are usually done at least: • 4 weeks after completing antibiotics • 2 weeks after stopping acid-suppressing medicines (PPIs), if taking any Your current improvement with lifestyle changes is reassuring, but some of your symptoms — especially weight loss, appetite loss, nighttime discomfort/fullness, and age above 60 — should still be followed carefully. You may also need: • CBC, Vitamin B12, iron profile if weakness/brain fog persists • Repeat evaluation by a gastroenterologist if symptoms recur or worsen • Follow-up endoscopy only if advised based on symptoms or biopsy findings Helpful lifestyle measures: • Small frequent meals • Avoid late-night heavy meals • Reduce tea/coffee, spicy/oily foods • Avoid smoking/alcohol if applicable • Maintain good sleep and hydration Brain fog and imbalance while walking are not typical direct symptoms of mild gastritis alone, so if those symptoms continue, evaluation by a physician/neurologist may also be worthwhile to rule out vitamin deficiency, inner ear, neurological, or metabolic causes. If H. pylori has not yet been formally treated with standard eradication therapy, then proper medical treatment is important because persistent H. pylori can increase the risk of recurrent ulcers and long-term stomach complications.
