Left rib pain/burning after spicy food
Doctor, I have had a mild tightness with occasional pain/burning on my left rib area for the past 3 days. It’s not severe, but it’s uncomfortable. I had a similar tightness one year ago which went away in a few days. This started after eating spicy snacks.

Hi, Your symptoms—mild tightness and burning on the left rib/chest area starting after spicy food—can commonly occur due to gastric acidity or acid reflux (GERD). This can cause temporary chest discomfort and often settles in a few days. At your age, serious heart issues are less likely, especially if there are no symptoms like breathlessness, sweating, dizziness, or pain spreading to the arm/jaw. But any chest discomfort should still be monitored carefully.
Next Steps
What you can do now: Avoid spicy, oily, or heavy meals for a few days Eat smaller meals at regular intervals Avoid lying down immediately after food You may take an OTC antacid if required Ensure good hydration and avoid late-night eating
Health Tips
Seek urgent care if you develop: Severe/worsening chest pain Pain radiating to arm/jaw Shortness of breath or sweating Persistent symptoms despite home measures If this keeps happening repeatedly, consider an in-person checkup and a simple ECG just to rule out other causes.
