Hey there! If you’re interested in becoming a clinical psychologist, it’s a journey that blends study, practical experience, and personal growth. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to get you started: 1. Educational Path Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BSc in Psychology): Begin with an undergraduate degree in psychology. This will give you a solid foundation in the subject. (Check the RCI website for updates on courses.) Master’s Degree (MSc/MA in Clinical Psychology, Applied Psychology, or Counselling Psychology): In this stage, you’ll dive deeper into psychological theories and assessments. 2. Practical Experience Internships and Volunteering: This part is super important! Working with real-life cases helps you see how theory applies in practice. If you intern with me, you’ll gain hands-on experience in diagnosis, case histories, and treatment planning. Field Exposure: Observing therapy sessions and interacting with clients will teach you how to build rapport and manage cases. I can share unique insights from my experience working abroad, giving you a global perspective along with local expertise. If you’re serious about gaining practical knowledge, I’d love to have you intern with me! You’ll work on real cases, handle diagnoses, and write case histories—all essential skills for clinical practice. Plus, I’ll share valuable insights from my work in India and abroad to help you prepare for a successful career.

Becoming a clinical psychologist is a rewarding but structured process. There's definitley so much more than just treating people- but also being in the here and now with them and witnessing their struggles. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you navigate the journey: 1. Obtaining the relevant degrees! To practice as a Clinical Psyhologist you will need ALL of the following degrees! a. Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BSc in Psychology) b. Master’s Degree (MA/MSc in Clinical Psychology or Applied Psychology) c. M.Phil: In India, an M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology (recognized by RCI—Rehabilitation Council of India) is essential for practicing as a licensed clinical psychologist. It’s a 2-year rigorous course involving both theoretical learning and hands-on clinical training. You can also consider pursuing a PhD or PsyD for more research-oriented or specialized clinical practice, but the M.Phil. is key for practice. 2. RCI Registration: Once you’ve completed your M.Phil., you’ll need to register with the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). This allows you to officially practice as a clinical psychologist in India. 3. Supervised Experience: Gaining hands-on experience under a licensed psychologist is vital. Some internships or placements during your M.Phil. might cover this, but post-degree supervised experience is highly recommended to sharpen your skills. 4. Practice & Specialization: Once registered, you can start practicing. Over time, you might want to specialize in certain areas like trauma, child psychology, or neuropsychology, depending on your interests.
Health Tips
It's a journey of continuous learning, but it’s incredibly fulfilling to help others on their mental health path.
