HIV risk !!
Hello Doctor, Please read my query carefully. took my rabies booster shot in government medical. They kept the loaded syringes in an open plastic container. One ice packet was also inside the container. The plastic container was seems moist due to that ice packet. I saw one used syringe was also there. That was not insulin syringe. This type syringe actually use for RIG . Syringe was no needle. My question is if that syringe was used for someone and kept in the same container. If it had hiv infected blood inside it , how much risk for me. If the moisture mix with the blood and touch my rabies vaccine syringe needle. I am at risk ? My rabies vaccine syringe was also with a red cap. But still if water go inside it. I am very much worried. Please help !!

I understand your concern, but based on what you described, there is NO risk of HIV transmission in this situation. HIV spreads only through direct entry of infected blood/body fluids into the bloodstream (like needle-stick injury, transfusion, or unprotected sexual contact with an infected person — HIV Infection transmission basics). In your case: • The “used syringe” had no needle attached → cannot transmit infection • Your vaccine syringe had a cap (protected needle) → prevents contamination • Even if there was moisture, HIV does not survive well outside the body, especially in open environment • There was no direct injection of contaminated blood into you
Next Steps
• No HIV testing or PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) is required for this incident • Continue your rabies vaccination schedule normally • No need to repeat or worry about that dose If you still feel anxious, you may do a routine HIV test after a few weeks just for reassurance—but medically it is not required.
Health Tips
HIV transmission requires direct, fresh blood-to-blood contact via needle or wound • Casual environmental contact (moisture, surfaces, air exposure) does not spread HIV • Government setups follow protocols; even if it looked unclean, your exposure scenario is not risky • Your symptoms (worry, overthinking) are due to anxiety, not infection ⸻

No risk, dont worry ,you are safe.because first of all hiv required fresh blood to spread and the syringe is needleless then possibility is almost zero.

Hello ,    I understand that your are anxious, but do not be worried. Transmission of hiv and other blood borne infection needs the contaminated blood to be directed injected/& mix with one's blood stream to be contracted . Even then the probability is less . In your case / quirey there the used needle was not the cold chain container ( the semi molten plastic bag - is ice pack- to maintain the temperature) , and the ARV vaccine needle was closed .so it's highly impossible for you/ one  to get HIV from the mentioned scenario
Next Steps
don't panic
Health Tips
if you have any queries, you can ask the health care provider beforehand ,so that you don't have to be anxious about the assistance you received from the healthcare team
