Your thyroid function tests are within normal range except for TPO antibody levels which seems ambiguous
A Quick Look at TFT
- TSH : Your level is 1.77 mIU/L. Normal range typically falls between 0.4 - 4.0 mIU/L, so your TSH is within the normal range.
- T3 : Your level is 116 ng/dL. The normal range varies by lab but is generally between 70 - 200 ng/dL. Your T3 appears normal.
- T4 : Your level is 7.52 µg/dL. The normal range is usually between 4.5 - 11.2 µg/dL, so your T4 is also within normal limits.
TPO Antibodies::Your level is 28.58 IU/mL. There's variability in what is considered normal for TPO antibody levels which varies from lab to lab:
- Some labs might consider values up to 34 IU/mL as normal, while others might have a lower threshold for abnormality, often around 9 IU/mL or higher.
The presence of TPO antibodies can suggest an autoimmune thyroid disorder like Hashimoto's thyroiditis, especially if you have other thyroid function abnormalities or symptoms. However:
- If your lab considers anything above 9 IU/mL as abnormal, then 28.58 would indeed be considered high, suggesting an autoimmune process.
- If the lab range goes up to 34 IU/mL, then your level, while at the higher end, would still be within the normal range, suggesting less concern for an active autoimmune process at this moment.
- You were on levothyroxine from February 2024, which indicates you've had some thyroid issues. Levothyroxine is typically used when the thyroid isn't producing enough thyroid hormone, which might be due to Hashimoto's or another cause of hypothyroidism.
