Hi, I am Dr. Atul Kumar Nimawat MS ENT Facial palsy, especially Bell’s palsy (idiopathic facial nerve paralysis), is often linked to viral infections or environmental triggers like cold exposure, which may explain the association with air conditioning. The recovery period typically ranges from 3 weeks to 3 months, depending on the severity and response to treatment. Mild headaches and neck lymph node swelling during recovery are not uncommon and may be related to: 1. Residual inflammation or viral activity — particularly if the cause of the facial palsy was viral (e.g., herpes simplex virus). 2. Muscle tension or nerve sensitivity — as the facial nerve heals, some patients experience referred pain or tension-related headaches. 3. Lymphadenitis — mild swelling of neck lymph nodes may occur in response to infection or inflammation in the surrounding area. Since there are no red flag symptoms (such as high fever, persistent vomiting, visual changes, or altered consciousness), the current symptoms seem mild and part of the recovery phase.
Next Steps
Warm compresses to the neck may help with lymph node tenderness. • If headaches persist or worsen, or new symptoms appear, a follow-up with a neurologist or nearest ENT specialist is advisable. • Adequate hydration, rest, and gentle facial exercises (as advised) will support recovery. • A mild analgesic (e.g., paracetamol) may be taken if needed.
