Since 80 hours have passed and you have no red flag symptoms (no vomiting, no loss of consciousness, no fluid from nose/ears), serious brain injury is less likely.
On-and-off moderate headache can happen due to:
• Soft tissue injury on forehead
• Mild concussion
• Muscle tension after impact
If headache is improving and not worsening, observation is usually enough.
But if pain increases, vomiting starts, vision changes, confusion, or drowsiness happens — seek emergency care.
If scan is needed, CT scan is preferred in recent head injury to rule out bleeding.
Based on your symptoms, this may require proper clinical assessment and prescription. You may book an online consultation with me for detailed evaluation and personalised treatment plan.
At 80 hours (more than 3 days) after head injury, with:
• No loss of consciousness
• No repeated vomiting
• No seizures
• No fluid from nose/ears
• No weakness or confusion
The risk of a dangerous intracranial bleed is very low.
Your on-and-off moderate headache is most likely due to:
• Mild concussion
• Scalp/forehead soft tissue injury
• Muscle tension from impact
• Stress/anxiety after the event
It is common for post-traumatic headaches to last days to even 1–2 weeks after mild head injury.
If symptoms were going to be severe (like epidural bleed), they usually present within the first 24–48 hours.
Next Steps
You need urgent evaluation only if you develop:
• Increasing severity headache
• Persistent vomiting
• Drowsiness
• Confusion
• Slurred speech
• Weakness in limbs
• Vision changes
If headache is:
• Mild to moderate
• Improving gradually
• No neurological symptoms
Observation at home is reasonable.
Regarding imaging:
• CT scan is preferred in acute head injury (to detect bleeding)
• MRI is not first-line for recent trauma unless symptoms persist or neurological deficits appear
At 80 hours, if you are stable and neurologically normal, imaging is usually not mandatory.
If anxiety is high, a CT scan can be done for reassurance.
Health Tips
✔ Take paracetamol if needed (avoid NSAIDs for few more days)
✔ Adequate hydration
✔ Proper sleep
✔ Avoid heavy screen time
✔ Avoid heavy gym/exertion for 5–7 days
✔ Reduce stress about the injury (anxiety worsens headache)
Most mild head injuries resolve completely.
If you want, tell me:
• Exact nature of headache (pressure, throbbing?)
• Any neck stiffness
• Any worsening trend
I can help assess whether this is simple post-concussion headache or needs imaging.
Booking an online consultation would allow a structured neurological assessment and give you clear reassurance or imaging guidance based on your specific risk profile.
Dear Patient,
Since 80 hours have passed and you have no red flag symptoms (vomiting, loss of consciousness, confusion, fluid leakage), serious brain injury is very unlikely.
Moderate headache can occur due to mild concussion or soft tissue injury and may last a few days.
No scan is needed at present if symptoms are stable. If required, CT scan is preferred over MRI in head injury.
Seek urgent care if headache worsens, vomiting starts, drowsiness, weakness, or vision changes occur.
