There are many reasons for hairfall or thinning of hair on the scalp. So first and foremost we have to find the cause with the help of detailed history and examination. Some of the common causes are nutritional deficiency, hormonal causes like androgenic alopecia or patterned baldness, hypothyroidism, telogen effluvium etc. Unless we find and treat the cause there is no point in giving non specific treatment. Oils or shampoos do not have any effect on hair growth as they are not absorbed in the skin. Moreover, you should never self treat with anything. Please send photographs using online consult option for proper diagnosis and detailed prescription.

Hi. Hairfall in young men could be patterned or unpatterned and either related to external causes or genetically pre-programmed as in the case of androgenetic alopecia. You may be suffering from early onset androgenetic alopecia. Does your father or brother or maternal uncles have balding? This could genetically predispose you to balding. Further environmental factors , pollution, stress, junk food and poor diet could cause you to lose hair further. You'll probably need treatment with hair care lotions or serums - something that has vasodilator properties and improves thickness of hair and reduces hair loss. Have a good balanced nutritious diet. Yes, your hair density can be restored if you take timely treatment and care of your hair. There are also advanced therapies like platelet rich plasma therapy, microneedling, mesotherapy with hair growth promoting solutions, etc which improve hair growth and thickness. If you have dandruff also, you'll need an antifungal shampoo â applying oils may worsen dandruff. See a qualified dermatologist near you /contact with photos and further details . Hope this helps. Caution: Make sure you see a qualified MD / DNB/ DVD dermatologist for all your skin and hair issues. Donât be lured in by quacks. Know your treating doctor/ discourage quackery!Warm regards, Dr Govind Suresh Mittal. Bengaluru
