Hi,
17.9 for hemoglobin is definitely on the higher side. Ideally we need to understand why that is happening.
Also, since you are on blood thinners, it's slightly tricky here.
Can you consult once to get a better idea
I need to know the following.
- why you are on blood thinners?
- do you smoke cigarettes?
- do you take any performance enhancing drugs or anabolic steroids?
- do you drink enough water or are you at a line of work where you are always dehydrated
- have you ever been evaluated for high hemoglobin
Thank you

**To the Patient:**
Your hemoglobin level of 17.9 g/dL is significantly elevated for a 25-year-old male. While blood thinners may address symptom management, they do not treat the underlying cause. High hemoglobin can result from conditions like **polycythemia vera, chronic hypoxia (e.g., due to smoking or sleep apnea), dehydration, or other hematologic disorders**. Untreated, this poses risks of **blood clots, stroke, or organ damage**.
**Next Steps:**
1. **Immediate Consultation:** Schedule an in-person evaluation to assess symptoms (e.g., headaches, dizziness), review medications, and order tests (CBC, JAK2 mutation, oxygen saturation, EPO levels).
2. **Hydration & Lifestyle:** Avoid dehydration and smoking; monitor for symptoms like redness or itching.
3. **Avoid Self-Management:** Do not adjust blood thinners without medical supervision.
**Urgent Action Required:**

Kindly connect…I can help
At age of 25, if u get such hb reports ( if done in a standard lab) - we have to evaluate your for polycythemia.
If u are a smoker and smoke significantly then it's secondary polycythemia - which can be assesed by carboxy hemoglobin levels. If the diagnosis is confirm you can be advised to the recurrent blood donations.
However if you do not smoke and if you do and ultrasounds scan of your abdomen - if you have an enlarged splenomegaly you have to be evaluated for primary polycythemia ( where ur bone marrow produce more rbcs) in such a condition you have to do several mutation test. So only with the proper history we will be able to solve your case.
