Had patella dislocation and have doubts!
Hi Sir/Maam. I had a patella dislocation while playing basketball a month ago and The Doc did conservative treatment and requires me to do follow up after 3 weeks.  I also have Knocked knees. My question is that is it true that Knocked knees can increase risk of redislocation ? What can I do to minimize the risk of another dislocation? Am starting physical Therapy from tomorrow and the fear of redislocation is affecting me a lot psychologically.

It's understandable to worry, but you can do things to help your knee and your worries will reduce. What you basically needs to do is to let the soft tissues holding your patella heal well. During dislocation they tear and if you don't let them heal well they become loose and can cause repeat dislocation. But if you allow them to heal normally they will not dislocate again, unless another injury etc. Rest assured, protect your knee in a brace for 2 months and they will heal well. Then start range of movement exercises for knee
Next Steps
take vitamin d and b12 injections if deficient

Hello Yes it is true that having knock knees can increase your risk of dislocation but it's also important to know how much degree of knock knees you have. Could you please provide the x-ray of your knees if you have one. Is this the first episode you had or did you have like this prior episodes of dislocation? Do kindly continue your physiotherapy to increase the strength of your muscles but once the swelling subsides. Did you get any MRI done? What activity caused the dislocation?

Kindly provide further details for appropriate advice
