I'm suffering from genital herpes infection from last 2 years. As I was facing recurrent herpes outbreak I started taking Acyclovir 400 mg twice a day from December 2022 and stopped in mid of May 2023. Next week after stopping taking antiviral, herpes outbreak again appeared. How long I should take antiviral? Kindly help.

Please restart it. If you are having active lesions, take three times for 7 days or till clearance if you are immunosuppressed. Then continue twice daily for minimum of a year. Please do check for HIV and blood sugar levels too

For recurrent herpes genitalis need long term tretament. Either episodic treatment or continuos suppresive therapy which you had taken for almost 6 months.
Next Steps
If complience is the issue then you can opt for other antivirals with lesser frequency and great effects. For more information you  need to consult a dermatoligist who can guide you more options which can be customised according to your lifestyle.
