Gallstones must be treated especially if they are causing symptoms. Symptoms could be very subtle, such as heaviness after meals, nausea, flatulence and upper abdominal discomfort. Pain in the upper abdomen on the right side which radiates to the back is also a common symptom.
Even if asymptomatic, multiple gallstones should be treated surgically. With respect to the size, small gall stones can be more damaging than big ones, as these can slip into the bile ducts and cause jaundice/pancreatitis.
Overall, gall bladder removal (laparoscopic cholecystectomy) is a sensible option.
It is a major surgery, but is performed safely and through very small incisions. This results in much less pain than conventional surgery, and also allows the patient to go home the very next day.
Cost will depend on the center where you operate, the amenities, and the room type you choose.
Get in touch with a laparoscopic surgeon at a good center.
