Hi doctor,
My daughter is 4.5 months old and she is been breastfeed. Since a month she is consuming less milk (5 to 10 min) per feed. I'm worried about her milk intake quantity. I have sufficient milk. Please let me know what could be the reason?
Can I start giving her semi solid food before 6 months?

Hi, I am dr. Sreepriya. Paediatrician
You are concerned that child is not consuming milk well for past 2 month
If your child is active, playful, not crying more and weight gain is good there is no need to worry
Added to that child should pass urine and motion normally
I feel, Probably child has become more playful and is not drinking
Next Steps
Start semi solid food after completion of 6 months only
You can start with ragi first
The rice with curd, dhal, vegetables
Fruits, fruit juice also can be introduced after 6 months
Remember don't introduce every thing together
Slowly one by one food items can be added
Continue your breast milk till 2 years of age

Ideal time to start food is after completion of 6 months. Naturally mothers milk decreases after 4 months. If needed u can start food 2 weeks before also. 10 min feeding is enough to feel babies stomach. Ensure he passes urine 5 to 6 times per day and weight gain ( both indicates enough breast milk )
