Yes Folic acid is important in pregnancy and after pregnancy. Sometimes doctor provide such medicines which are combination better ask your gyane directly is she giving you such combination that folic acid plus iron. If she is giving that combination than your problem solved or not can ask why?
During pregnancy you are free to ask all the quereies to your doctor n tell every feeling what you feel from nausea to some pain (if you have)

If u have no problem in eating folic acid during pregnancy (problems like heartburn, palpitations, acidity) then eat it everyday .
