Mostly fevers in children are viral fevers and they behave like this . The paracetamol given to bring down fever is effective for 6 to 8 hrs and can be repeated as and when the child is having fever but never earlier than 4 hrs . Mostly the viral infections last 3 to 5 days . If the fever lasts more than that duration or if the child is very unwell even when the fever has come down with paracetamol , has other symptoms like vomiting , headache , loose stools , throat pain etc please seek physical medical attention
