Ear crackling is usually normal while swallowing and yawning. If it's very frequent and disturbing then it may be due to eustachian tube dysfunction which usually occurs secondary to common cold. It usually resolves spontaneously after few days. You can use decongestant medicines for few days for faster recovery. MRI is not really required for such condition
