Anti-rabies vaccination is not required for rat bites. According WHO and CDC. Small rodents are never found to be infected with rabies and have not been known to transmit it to humans. they are so small that they rarely survive an attack by a larger rabid animal long enough to develop the virus and pass it on. Rat bites carry other serious risks such as Rat bite Fever, Leptospirosis, other bacterial infections. If the wild rat is actually a Bandicoot rat , it is treated as a high-risk exposure for Rabies.
Next Steps
Since rats live in soil and dirty environments, a tetanus shot is mandatory.
