Recently, I've been worrying too much about the death of my family. I really love my family, and when I was really small- around 10, I used to cry uncontrollably alone, because I was scared of my family dying. This fear has become so bad that I have dreams of my grandparents crying. I am a sensitive person in general, I cry when people I dont know die, Im scared to think about the death of my loved ones and it's really stressing me out. I spoke to my dad and he explained that life is a carnival, we all come and we all must go too, but we'll come back again, and it felt nice to hear but its effects were temporary and the fear fills me again. Please advise on how to overcome or at least live with this.

Hi
What you’re experiencing is not a sign of weakness or something “wrong” with you it reflects death anxiety mixed with high emotional sensitivity and attachment. From a young age, your mind learned to deeply bond and then over-anticipate loss, so love automatically triggers fear of separation. The dreams, uncontrollable crying, and distress at others’ deaths show that your nervous system stays emotionally over-activated, even when there is no immediate threat. Logical explanations (like your father’s words) feel comforting for a while, but they don’t last because this fear is emotional, not intellectual.
What helps is not forcing yourself to “accept death” but learning emotional regulation and tolerance of uncertainty gently training your mind to stay in the present without constantly rehearsing future loss. Therapy works on grounding techniques, reframing catastrophic thoughts, building emotional boundaries so empathy doesn’t overwhelm you, and slowly desensitizing the fear through safe exposure. This way, love can exist without constant dread. With support, people like you learn to live fully without this fear ruling their inner world.
