In order to treat the earpain you have to treat the (presumed) underlying cause - the cold.
Antibiotics, antihistiminic with decongestant, decongestant nasal drops, steam, and painkiller (ibugesic may be given)
Also it must be ruled out what if the earache is not because of any other cause. (Eg. wax)

Steam is very important. The cold is causing pressure on the ear and nasal secretions may travel to the ear and cause more pain and aural fullness.
