Chemical peels are effective and need to be used cautiously. The peel is supposed to cause a bit of a burning sensation so that it acts effectively by removing the superficial layers of the skin. However in patients with the darker skin tone we need to be a bit cautious because the chances of leaving marks on the screen is higher. Also in patients with atopic diathesis who have sensitive skin the peel can leave marks and we need to be careful. May be a different peel or a milder peel can be used. Also there are other options like photorejuenation with lasers. Serum and cream help but peel help to further augment the response. Also the response to treatment depends on the condition. There are multiple causes for facial hyperpigmentation. Sun tan, overweight, pigmentation disorders like acanthosis nigricans or melasma, lichen planus pigmentosus, rhiel's melasnosis, nutritional deficiency etc are some conditions. The patches of pigmentation need to be examined and assessed to know the cause. Treating it without knowing the underlying cause will offer incomplete and temporary relief; also it will keep rebounding. Get an online consult privately with pictures or meet a dermatologist directly for a proper evaluation of the condition. Hope this was helpful.
