Can I apply minoxidil 5% to my beard?

I recently consulted doctor regarding my male pattern baldness and thinning of hair she recommended me to apply minoxidil 5% solution daily I have a doubt that I don't have a beard and if I apply it to my beard will I get beard? I am 22 years of age but still I am like a 15-16 years old boy who don't have beard I applied castor oil beard oil but it didn't worked as minoxidil has a side effect that if I apply on my head scalp it will grow unwanted hairs so will you recommend me to apply it on my beard? This is my genetic issue doctor my brother also don't have a good beard he has a patchy beard and I done even have beard I just have some hairs which are not even visible please suggest me with your knowledge Thank you.
