Can antibiotics affect STI diagnosis
So i had a throat infection and was on antibiotics. But I wanted to get checked for routine STD as well as throat swab culture for any oral STI. How long should I wait after stopping antibiotics?

Hi there... If i understand you correctly, you are currently on some oral antibiotics and wish to know how long after you stop, would it be feasible to do a STI check? Issue is that it is unclear if the throat infection is bacterial in the first place. A lot of docs tend to use antibiotics indiscriminately and it may well be a viral sore throat. Other point is that STI' can be of viral, bacterial, parasitic or other origins. Antibiotics may have masked or treated an issue ad hoc and as such, there may not be any point in testing. A rule of thumb would be to wait for a week and then test. But it's probably best to connect directly with one of us using this App's INSTANT ONLINE Consultation for a more discreet history and assessment before one takes a call on this testing 🙏
