If you have injured your gum with a toothpick and it is slightly bulged and occasionally bleeding, it is important to take proper care to promote healing and prevent infection. Here are a few steps you can take: Rinse with warm saltwater: Mix half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water. Rinse your mouth gently with this solution for about 30 seconds, then spit it out. Repeat this a few times a day to keep the area clean and help reduce inflammation. Avoid irritating the area: Try to avoid touching or poking the injured gum with your tongue, toothbrush, or any other objects. This will give the gum time to heal without further irritation. Maintain good oral hygiene: Continue brushing your teeth twice a day with a soft-bristle toothbrush and a gentle touch. Be careful around the injured gum and try to avoid causing additional discomfort. Use a mouth rinse or gel: You can consider using an over-the-counter oral antiseptic mouth rinse or gel to help prevent infection and promote healing. Look for products that contain ingredients like chlorhexidine or benzocaine. Follow the instructions on the product packaging for proper usage. Apply a cold compress: If you experience any swelling or discomfort, you can apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek near the affected area. This can help reduce swelling and provide temporary relief. If the bulging, bleeding, or discomfort persists or worsens, it is advisable to consult a dentist for a professional evaluation. They can assess the injury, provide appropriate treatment if needed, and ensure that there are no further complications.
