Dear doctors,
I'm seeking help with breastfeeding my 8-day-old baby. Despite latching well and feeding for an hour, she remains unsatisfied and cries. Due to concerns about milk supply, I've been supplementing with top-up feeds since day one. Her urine and stool output appear normal, but I'd like to transition to exclusive breastfeeding. Can you provide guidance on how to increase my milk supply and achieve exclusive breastfeeding?

First of all you should hold the baby correctly during feeding and baby should have good latching, you should notice the gulping sound in the mouth of the baby and if you feed from 1 breast then milk oozes from other breast and baby passes urine 4-6 times a day and semi solid stools, that means milk production is sufficient..and feeding should be done from 1 side for minimum 10-20 mins and not 1 hour and next time feed from another side ,feed from 1 side at a time as foremilk and hindmilk both should be given to baby for proper growth
Next Steps
you should be relaxed while feeding the baby, and give importance to night time feedings as night feeding increases and maintain milk production , increase your liquid intake
Health Tips
if you're having any nipple problems, then visit gynecologist or pediatrician for proper management and if milk production is not sufficient you may need some medications
