Hello, For some people getting BP checked with a doctor can give raised BP readings due to anxiety, medically called white coat hypertension. You can get a BP apparatus at home and keep a chart for few days. Alternatively you can opt for ambulatory BP monitoring, where you get a BP apparatus applied to your arm for 7 days and then a report is generated.

That appears to be white coat hypertension, commonly seen in the society , raises the BP by 10-30 mm hg.You may monitor your BP at home after relaxing for a few minutes, take 3 readings and consider the average of the last 2 readings. If it's not relieving anxiety you may have to go for ambulatory BP monitoring

Get ambulatory blood pressure monitoring done for 24hrs. That is much more helpful than isolated readings if you are a nervous person. All the best. J G S R clinic

Feeling nervous during a blood pressure check is extremely common, and it can definitely cause the readings to rise , this is called white-coat effect. When you become anxious, your body releases adrenaline, which temporarily increases heart rate and blood pressure. In many people, this can raise the systolic (upper number) by10–30 mmHg, and sometimes even more, depending on how anxious they feel. This does not mean you have permanent high BP; it simply reflects a momentary stress response. To get more accurate readings, it’s best to rest quietly for 5 minutes before measurement, take 2–3 readings, and also check BP at home in a relaxed environment. If home readings are normal, then the elevated reading during nervousness is harmless and not considered true hypertension.
