AST and ALT are 2 liver enzymes markers. They show the health of your liver. Although increased liver enzyme markers in pregnancy indicate high-risk pregnancy. Causes can be many like viral hepatitis, hypertension AFLP.
Next Steps
as advised by your obgyn.
Health Tips
need to monitor routinely, avoid food from outside in pregnancy, monitor B.P., do as advised by your doctor.
Yes. The cause of elevation of liver enzymes must be found out and it should also be monitored.
The causes could vary from pregnancy specific causes like obstetric cholestasis, hypertension (common), rarely AFLP (unlikely in her case though), HELLP etc. It could also be due to viral hepatitis or other liver specific causes.
Either way it should be evaluated and treated quickly to prevent its bad effects on the mother and the developing baby.
