Dear Sir/Madam My wife is 16 weeks pregnant has AST and ALT 41 and 67 is it a serious complication Her platelet count in normal range 229 And other blood and liver factors are also normal

Please don't Panic, it's not in alarming range and if rest of parameters of investigations are Normal, not to worry. Please get her BP checked regularly. And also I would like to know what medications she is on? Does she has associated itching? Please connect for further update.

AST and ALT are 2 liver enzymes markers. They show the health of your liver. Although increased liver enzyme markers in pregnancy indicate high-risk pregnancy.  Causes can be many like viral hepatitis,  hypertension AFLP.

Yes. The cause of elevation of liver enzymes must be found out and it should also be monitored. The causes could vary from pregnancy specific causes like obstetric cholestasis, hypertension (common), rarely AFLP (unlikely in her case though), HELLP etc. It could also be due to viral hepatitis or other liver specific causes. Either way it should be evaluated and treated quickly to prevent its bad effects on the mother and the developing baby.
