After a tooth extraction, increased saliva and a white patch on the tongue are commonly seen and usually not serious.
Most likely causes:
• Oral thrush (fungal infection) — common after antibiotics, painkillers, mouth breathing, or reduced oral hygiene
• Coated tongue due to saliva pooling and reduced chewing on that side
• Mild irritation or healing-related changes
Since this started 8–10 days after extraction, it is unlikely to be a surgical complication.
Warning signs to watch for (usually not present):
• Severe pain at extraction site
• Pus or foul smell from socket
• High fever
Next Steps
1. Oral care
• Gently brush tongue (don’t scrape hard)
• Rinse mouth 2–3 times daily with warm salt water
2. Medication (if white patch persists or spreads):
• A topical antifungal mouth paint/gel (like clotrimazole) may be needed
• Avoid self-starting antibiotics
3. Consult your dentist if:
• Patch does not clear in 3–4 days
• Burning or pain increases
• Patch spreads to cheeks or palate
Health Tips
• Stay well hydrated
• Avoid smoking, alcohol, and very spicy food
• Avoid excessive mouthwash use (can worsen dryness)
• Chew soft food on both sides if possible
• Complete any prescribed post-extraction medicines as advised
What you’re experiencing is very common after dental procedures and usually resolves quickly with simple care. It does not indicate a serious problem.
If needed, a short dental review can clear this up easily and give you quick relief.
Is it painful, on swallowing, does it bleed on removal, is it increasing?

I know this is worrying — after tooth extraction, a white patch on the tongue with excess saliva is most commonly due to oral fungal infection (thrush) or a coated tongue, especially if you were on antibiotics or mouthwash. It doesn’t look serious from the photo, but it does need treatment.
Next Steps
– Start an antifungal mouth gel/lozenge (like clotrimazole or similar)
– Do warm salt-water gargles 2–3× daily
– Keep good oral hygiene, gently clean the tongue
– If it doesn’t improve in 2–3 days, please book a consultation with me so I can prescribe proper medication.
Health Tips
Avoid smoking, very spicy foods, and strong mouthwashes for now. If you develop pain, fever, or worsening patches — don’t wait.
If you’d like, take a quick consultation and I’ll guide you properly — easier to fix early
