White discharge and labial itching
I have severe vaginal itch on clitoris and labia( both folds) from 2 years now. With dryness and mild thick white discharge. Post searching and taking treatments from various gynaecologists nothing helped. So i went to see an ayurvedic practitioner. She told me go through uttarbasti. But everywhere on google i am reading that uttarbasti is not good if you have some infection. But M she told me that google is wrong i can take sessions even in white discharge. I am now confused. Is it advisable ?

Thank you for sharing your concern — it’s completely valid to feel confused, especially when you’ve been dealing with **chronic vaginal itching and white discharge** for 2 years without relief, and now you're receiving conflicting advice about **Uttarbasti**. Let’s break this down clearly and responsibly from an **authentic Ayurvedic** and **clinical safety** point of view. --- ### 🌿 **What is Uttarbasti?** * **Uttarbasti** is a specialized Panchakarma procedure where **medicated oil or decoction is introduced into the uterus or vagina** via the vaginal canal (in females) or urethra (in males). * It is highly effective for **chronic gynecological conditions**, especially those involving **Apana Vata imbalance** and **reproductive tract** issues. --- ### ⚠️ **The Big Question: Can You Take Uttarbasti During White Discharge or Infection?** 👉 **Short Answer:** > **No, Uttarbasti is *not advised* during active vaginal infections or acute discharges caused by infection.** --- ### 🧪 **Here’s Why:** 1. **White discharge (Leucorrhoea)** can have different causes: * Fungal (Candida) * Bacterial (BV) * Parasitic (Trichomoniasis) * Non-infectious (hormonal, friction, dryness) 2. If the cause of your discharge is **infectious** (which your symptoms suggest: itching, dryness, discharge), then introducing **any oil or decoction inside the vaginal canal can worsen the infection**, trap moisture, or spread it internally. 3. Authentic Ayurvedic texts **clearly recommend** treating infections or **"Yoni Kandu"** (vaginal itching) **first** with: * **Yoni Prakshalana (medicated washing)** * **Yoni Pichu (tampon therapy)** * **Internal detox** (like ***Rasayana, *******Bhasma, etc.) 4. **Once the discharge and infection are cleared**, then **Uttarbasti is beneficial** to: * Restore vaginal flora * Improve dryness * Balance Apana Vata * Prevent recurrence --- ### 🚩 Your Current Symptoms Suggest: * **Severe clitoral + labial itching** * **Dryness** * **Thick white discharge** ➡️ Most likely cause: **Chronic Candida infection + vaginal dysbiosis + Vata aggravation** --- ### ✅ **Recommended Ayurvedic Protocol Before Uttarbasti** #### Step 1: Local Wash (Yoni Prakshalana) * ******decoction wash** (lukewarm) – sitz bath daily for 10–15 mins * OR *****+ *****+ ****** decoction for fungal-type infection #### Step 2: Internal Herbs * *****Rasayana** – 250 mg twice daily with honey/water * ******Vati** – 2 tabs twice daily * ******Bhasma** – if dryness and hormonal imbalance is involved (with honey) #### Step 3: Local Application (Pichu or external paste) * **Yoni Pichu** with ****Taila or ****oil infused with camphor * Apply ******churna + ghee paste** externally for soothing 🕉️ Once all these help resolve infection and discharge — **then**: #### ✅ Proceed with **Uttarbasti (3–5 sessions)** with: * *****Ghrita**, ******Taila**, or ******Taila** depending on the prakriti --- ### 🚫 So, in Conclusion: * Your Ayurvedic doctor may **intend well**, but **doing Uttarbasti during active vaginal itching and discharge is not safe**. * The traditional Ayurvedic protocol is: > First **Shodhana (cleansing)** and **Shamana (healing)** → Then **Uttarbasti** to restore balance. --- Would you like me to suggest a **full 2-week home protocol** (with herbs + wash + application) before considering Uttarbasti? Advice- Consult us for details.

She is right. Uttarbasti performed correctly with thew right formulations will definitely help. Also, repeated infections is a sign of gut dysbiosis along with insulin resistance for which you need proper oral medications  and HAIP DIET which will address the root cause of the issue.
Next Steps
get in touch with a good ayurvedic practitioner who can perform uttarbasti and other panchkarma procedure in a clean and safe environment.
Health Tips
Follow HAIP DIET to address root cause and consult if required.

Uttarabasti is a powerful Ayurvedic therapy and can be effective in chronic vaginal issues, but it must be done only after ruling out active infections. If white discharge is due to an ongoing infection (like candidiasis), it’s best to treat that first. Please take a second Ayurvedic opinion before starting uttarbasti.

It's good that you raised a concern trusting this platform. As an ayurveda gynaecologist, my opinion is 1. Without undergoing certain tests to rule out what is the cause for infection , whether it is fungal, bacterial or any other organism we cannot give or plan a  proper treatment 2. We should see the area of spread of infection. Some infection will start from cervix (opening of uterus) and then will be visible outside as white discharge or abnormal discharges which will irritate the nearby genital areas and cause itching. 3. In such cases we cannot go directly to uttarabasti without reducing the infection outside as it will be like we are spreading the infection into the uterus. 4.once the cause of infection is ruled out , we can give proper oral and external interventions and when it gets pacified you can move to uttarabasti if it's felt necessary by the practitioner.
Next Steps
Need some tests - both blood tests and swab tests
Health Tips
For better opinion regarding treatment consult personally.Thnak you for trusting ayurveda
