At 5 years of age, a weight of 13 kg is below average, but considering your child was born premature (7 months) with a low birth weight of 1.6 kg, this can be due to catch-up growth delay. In most such children, the issue is not lack of food, but poor calorie density, picky eating, frequent infections, or micronutrient deficiencies. Weight gain should be slow, safe, and nutrition-based, not medicine-based.
Next Steps
1. Paediatric assessment to check: • Height, weight, BMI, and growth chart • Hemoglobin, vitamin D, iron, and calcium • Deworming status 2. Nutrition first (no weight-gain medicines needed initially): • High-calorie, high-protein diet plan • 5–6 small meals per day 3. Supplements (only if advised by doctor): • Multivitamin syrup • Vitamin D if low • Iron if anemia is present 4. Follow-up every 3 months to monitor growth
Health Tips
• Add ghee, butter, peanut butter, cheese, paneer to daily food • Give milk + banana + dates smoothie • Eggs (if allowed) are excellent for weight gain • Avoid junk food; focus on calorie-dense home food • Do not force feed—make meals enjoyable • Ensure adequate sleep and play

Add a teaspoonful into her milk 4.add paneer and eggs in her diet 5.replace regular potatoes with roasted sweet potatoes 6.avoid giving her juice or water 30mims before a meal as liquids can fill her stomach . 7.Avoid biscuits ,chips and sodas
