Hello Doctor,
My baby is 83 days old. Fifteen days ago, his weight was 4.8 kg, but now it has decreased to 4.6 kg. Otherwise, he is active and alert, but he tends to vomit after feeding.
Could you please advise me on what to do?

Hello
Babies should gain ~25–30 g/day in the first 3 months.
Weight loss suggests inadequate intake, malabsorption, or increased losses (like vomiting).
It’s not normal for a baby to lose weight at this stage. Vomiting after feeds could be interfering with growth. Let’s identify the cause early and help your baby start gaining weight again.
Is it possetting (small spit-up) or forceful/projectile? Any bilious (green) vomiting? That’s an emergency.
Common causes:
Overfeeding or fast feeding
Improper burping
Gastroesophageal reflux (GER) – common at this age
Cow’s milk protein intolerance (if on formula)
Next Steps
Baby needs a physical examination and possibly investigations . Ensure the baby is hydrated (6–8 wet diapers/day).
Feed smaller volumes more frequently
Hold baby upright for 20–30 min after feeding
Burp the baby well during and after feeds
Avoid tight swaddling or pressure over abdomen after feeding
Health Tips
Red flags:
Persistent vomiting, poor feeding
Lethargy or excessive sleepiness
Fewer wet diapers
Sunken fontanelle or dry mouth
A 200 gm weight loss in 15 days can or cannot be normal. Was the baby gaining weight too rapidly previously? Was the baby sick in the past few days? Is the baby dehydrated? Are the eyes , lips and tongue dry? Does the skin seems loose? How long has the baby been vomiting after feeds? How many times a day and how much?
Next Steps
detailed assessment of the beby is required to determine next steps.
