Hello,
acute virall illness generally takes 4-5 days to recover on an average. The generalised weakness, bad taste and poor sense of smell may persist for longer periods of time. Vomiting can be because of forcefull feeding or the child is not able to get the taste of the food, or he is having a wet cough causing post tussive vomiting. These symptoms may persist for 10-15 days post viral illness.
Next Steps
1. Keep a watch on hydration status of child; watch for urine frequency, activity of child; presence of dry mouth or not
Loss of appetite in children after a viral infection is a common due to Inflammatory molecules like cytokines (e.g. IL-1, TNF-α, IL-6) can affect the hypothalamus, which regulates hunger.
Suppress appetite as part of the body's recovery process.
Reduced interest in eating, altered sense of smell, sore throat, nausea and coughing (occasionally).
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO MAKE IT NORMAL???
1.Offer small, frequent meals instead of full plates.
2.Focus on hydration first -water, soup, electrolyte drinks.
3.Give nutrient-dense snacks (e.g. yogurt, smoothies, bananas).
4.Be patient don’t force eating; appetite usually returns with energy levels.
