Very adamant
My granddaughter is 5 years old. For the past 5 months she has turned very adamant. She is showing tantrums such as crying, screaming if she is hungry or sleepy. She has developed this bad habit at recent times. Also she is taking medicine for epilepsy on daily basis. She is better with us and shows tantrums if her mother is present. Also she is very adamant to talk. She is not interested to write nor talk. Due to language barrier she doesn't sit in class. So teachers have recommended shadow teaching for her. Could you explain what is shadow teaching? How to control her tantrums

Hello, Your granddaughter's recent behavior changes, marked by adamant tantrums, may stem from a variety of factors, including her epilepsy and potential communication difficulties. Shadow teaching, a strategy involving one-on-one support in the classroom, could greatly benefit her by providing personalized assistance in understanding instructions, managing frustrations, and navigating social interactions despite language barriers. To address her tantrums, it's important to first identify triggers, establish a consistent routine, and facilitate effective communication through alternative means such as visual aids or gestures. Offering choices, providing positive reinforcement for desired behaviors, and maintaining calm and consistency in responses are also key strategies. Seeking professional support from pediatricians, Child psychologists, or behavior therapists can offer further insights and tailored interventions. By implementing these approaches and offering understanding and support, you can help your granddaughter manage her tantrums while addressing her developmental and medical needs effectively.

Hello, Shadow teaching is when a separate teacher works closely or separately with a child in the main class itself that is in the school for enhancing child's academics, emotional and social areas of life. It is one on one support in the class. To control the tantrums, do not react to tantrums or give attention to them,  if you give attention it will encourage her negative behaviour and give positive reinforcement for the positive behaviour which you want to encourage, which can be her favourite food or play activities or fav cartoon, etc A lot of activities and worksheets can help her to modify her behaviour by channeling her emotions.
