Unfortunately due to unchecked and rampant antibiotic abuse most of the bugs causing UTI have developed resistance to first line antibiotics. The only way to effectively and completely treat the UTI is by sending a urine culture and sensitivity test to identify the bug causing UTI and what medicine works on it the best. This is ideally sent on the first day of suspicion of UTI before starting antibiotics as otherwise the likelihood of test being positive will be low. After identifying the bug and antibiotic to which it responds it has to be treated for a period of 2-3 weeks for complete eradication of the bug.Irregular or non compliant treatment will only partially control the infection resulting in repeat or recurrent UTI.
Next Steps
Please consult your nearest MD(General Medicine) or MD/DNB (Nephrology) for further guidance.
Health Tips
Take treatment completely for the designated duration advised by your doctor..Else UTI’s will recurvfrequently
