Hello Doctor, My father aged 70 had long penile and short bulbar utheral strictures and had chronicle UTI. Last month he underwent Urethrotomy and he's looking better now. I heard reoccurence chances are so high for long strictures, could you kindly advice what precautions we can take to prevent reoccurrence. Some sites prefer self catheterization, but my father also have dementia, so dont think he can manage at this age. Could please help and advice any simple precautionary steps or can we try homeopathy or ayurveda? Your reply will highly help, thanking you in advance.

I think for him Perineal urethrostomy will be best option for making him comfortable for passing urine and avoid risk of infection. In perineal urethrostomy we made urinary opening behind scrotum and some anterior to anal opening, so his penis will be bypass, need to pass urine through new opening, in sitting position like females. But his quality of life will be much better. Can consult a local urologist for this option.
