Underarm Pimple
Hello Doctor, I have developed a painful pimple in my underarm area. It feels quite uncomfortable, especially when I move my arm or when there is friction against the skin. The area is tender and slightly swollen, and it has been bothering me for a while now. I would like to know what this could be and whether it is something serious or just a minor skin issue. Could you please recommend any medication, ointment, or treatment that can help reduce the pain and make it heal faster? Also, are there any precautions or home remedies I should follow to avoid worsening the condition? I would appreciate your guidance on how to get it back to normal as soon as possible. Thank you.

Hi there young lady ... At the outset it doesn't appear to be a serious issue and a Furunculosis of sorts..but early intervention is good. Get it attended to by a Qualified Dermatologist and close it out. Left alone, it may evolve into a pesky hidradenitis that can last years and is very annoying to patients. Choosing the right antibiotic is key along with a good anti inflammatory agent. General measures have already been described by some colleagues and i won't repeat the same. Good luck and Godspeed 🙏 Should you wish to connect directly using this App's INSTANT ONLINE Consultation, you are most welcome 🤗

This most likely sounds like a furuncle (boil) / infected hair follicle in the underarm. Due to sweat, friction, and hair follicles in that area, these are quite common. Next Steps: • Start warm compress (10–15 mins, 3–4 times/day) → helps it drain naturally • Apply a topical antibiotic (like mupirocin or fusidic acid) 2–3 times daily • Take a pain reliever (paracetamol/ibuprofen if needed) • Keep the area clean and dry • If swelling increases or pus forms → may need oral antibiotics or drainage by doctor Helpful Tips / Word of Caution: • Do NOT squeeze or pop → can worsen infection • Avoid shaving/waxing till it heals • Wear loose cotton clothes to reduce friction • Maintain hygiene and avoid deodorants temporarily When to see a doctor urgently: • Fever or rapidly increasing pain/swelling • Redness spreading • Not improving in 3–5 days • Recurrent episodes You can consult with me via Practo for detailed evaluation and treatment

Hi there!
Next Steps
Warm compress: Apply a clean warm cloth over the area for 10–15 minutes, 2–3 times a day. This helps reduce pain and may allow it to heal faster. • Topical antibiotic: You can apply an antibiotic ointment like mupirocin or fusidic acid twice daily (if not allergic). • Keep the area clean & dry: Gently wash with mild soap and pat dry. • Avoid friction: Wear loose cotton clothes and avoid shaving or deodorants on that area for a few days. • Do NOT squeeze or pop it: This can worsen infection and delay healing.
Health Tips
it’s always best to get it examined so we can guide you with the right medication or drainage if needed.
