Under weight
Hello doctor. I am 19 years old. My height is about 5.8 ft and my weight is around 48 kg. My weight has been almost the same for the last 3-4 years. I often feel weak and sometimes tired. I am worried that I might have anemia (low iron) and I want to know the reason for my low weight and how I can improve my health. I am not currently taking any regular medicine.

At 5.8 ft and 48 kg, your BMI is significantly low (underweight). Your symptoms (weakness, fatigue) could be due to: • Iron Deficiency Anemia • Possible **Vitamin B12 Deficiency or Vitamin D deficiency • High metabolism / inadequate calorie intake • Less commonly, thyroid or absorption issues
Next Steps
• Get basic tests done: – CBC (for anemia) – Iron studies – Vitamin B12 & Vitamin DThyroid profile • Start improving nutrition immediately: – High-calorie, high-protein diet – 3 main meals + 2–3 snacks daily • If deficiencies are found → targeted supplements
Health Tips
• Add calorie-dense foods: – Banana, peanut butter, nuts, milk, eggs, paneer • Protein intake: eggs, chicken, dal, soy • Drink milkshakes/smoothies for easy calories • Light strength exercise → helps muscle gain • Proper sleep (7–8 hrs)
