If you have a history of a gastric ulcer and are experiencing bloating or gas with certain foods, it is best to focus on easily digestible protein sources rather than tablets. There are no protein tablets that can replace adequate dietary protein. Safe protein options that are usually well tolerated: * Boiled eggs or egg whites * Curd/yogurt (if tolerated) * Paneer in moderate amounts * Soft tofu * Fish or boiled/grilled chicken * Whey protein isolate (lactose-free varieties are less likely to cause bloating) Protein supplements A whey protein isolate is generally the easiest to digest and contains very little lactose, making it less likely to cause gas compared to regular whey concentrate or many plant-based proteins. To reduce bloating: * Start with half a serving and increase gradually. * Take protein in divided portions rather than a large amount at once. * Avoid very high-fiber protein powders if bloating is a concern. * Avoid spicy, oily foods, excess tea/coffee, smoking, and alcohol if you have an active ulcer. Please clarify: * Was the ulcer diagnosed by endoscopy? * Is it a stomach ulcer or duodenal ulcer? * Are you currently taking medications such as pantoprazole or other acid-suppressing drugs? * Have you been tested or treated for H. pylori infection? If the ulcer is active or symptoms persist, follow-up with a gastroenterologist is advisable. Once the ulcer is adequately treated, most patients can consume normal protein-rich foods without significant issues. “For most patients with ulcer disease, easily digestible protein sources such as eggs, curd, paneer, tofu, fish, and lean chicken are safe. If you wish to use a supplement, a whey protein isolate is generally better tolerated and less likely to cause bloating than many other protein powders. Start with small amounts and monitor symptoms. If your ulcer symptoms are ongoing, a gastroenterology review may be required to ensure the ulcer has healed and to rule out H. pylori infection.”
