Type of rice
Dear Doctor, Please advise the type of rice to consume and type of rice to avoid for diabetic patients. Also please advise how to cook the rice for diabetic patients, Whether pressure cooker rice is good or should we filter out the cooked starch water before consuming? Also please do advise whether the diabetic patients can consume the rice added with water the night before fermented?

Helloooo all rice have been same calorie content.. but different in digestion time... for diabetic patients brown rice n small khichadi rice is good.. no any process can be effective for diabetes.. fermented food is good for diabetic patients.

Hello,  try to use brown rice/ red rice/ black rice. Do not eat plain rice, combine it with vegetables and dal/pluses. Try to avoid rice in evening or dinner time. Consume it in morning, prefer it in lunch.

Hello!!It is always better you replace rice items with little millet or kodo millet or broken wheat. But if you are used to eating rice then half cup of red rice/black rice or parboiled rice would be better with more portion of vegetables in your meal. Make your meal balanced with fibre and protein to manage blood sugar levels. You can pressure cook the rice. Soaking can reduce starch in the rice to a lower extent, however small portion of rice listed above should be fine.

Choose brown rice, basmati rice, samak rice, or ponni rice. These have more fiber and help control sugar levels. Avoid white rice and sticky rice as they raise blood sugar quickly. Don’t cook rice in a pressure cooker; it keeps more starch, which is not good for diabetics. Cook rice with extra water and drain the starch before eating. This lowers the sugar impact. Eating rice soaked overnight in water is fine. It develops good bacteria that help digestion and slow sugar spikes. Avoid adding sugar or jaggery. Portion control is key. Even healthy rice should be eaten in small amounts with vegetables and proteins to balance sugar levels.

Hello, first of all combining rice with goof amount of fibre and proteins is must for diabetic individuals. A cup of rice combined with a bowl of curd or dal with a bowl of vegetables can be consumed by a diabetic individual so that the Blood sugar levels are controlled. Also, Rice can be pressure cooked and water to be filtered out. Of course brown rice is better option than white rice because it contains better profile of fibre, vitamins and minerals. But don't forget to pair rice along with protein and fibre

Choose whole grain rice like - brown, red or black rice. Fermented rice is good option. Cooling rice increase resistant starch, which helps regulate the blood sugar.

You can add quinoa rice/ ragi rice/ Samual rice instead of plain white rice. That will be full of fibre and protein.
