Travel advice for low lying placenta
Dear Doctor, My wife is currently 26 weeks pregnant and this is her second pregnancy. Her recent ultrasound shows a low-lying placenta, approximately 2.6 cm from the internal cervical os. During her first pregnancy, she also had a low-lying placenta, which resolved later and the pregnancy and delivery were uncomplicated. In the current pregnancy, she has had no vaginal bleeding, spotting, pain, or contractions so far. We would appreciate your advice on whether it is safe for her to undertake a short domestic flight of approximately 25 minutes, and if any precautions are recommended.

Placenta 2.6 cm from os at 26 weeks is generally safe and often migrates higher. With no bleeding or pain, a short 25-min flight is usually safe.
Next Steps
Follow up scan at 32–34 weeks to reassess placental position.
Health Tips
Avoid travelling in case of pv bleed/pv leak, pain abdomen.

At 26 weeks of pregnancy, a placenta located 2.6 cm away from the internal os is classified as a low-lying placenta, not placenta previa. In most cases, as the uterus grows, the placenta moves further up, and this often resolves on its own. Since she has no history of bleeding, pain, or contractions, a short domestic flight of around 25 minutes is generally considered safe.
Next Steps
She should seek immediate medical attention if she experiences any vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain, or contractions during or after travel.
Health Tips
Avoid strenuous activity and heavy lifting Keep well hydrated Walk briefly after landing to avoid leg stiffness Carry all antenatal records while traveling
