Toddler wheezing
Doctor, two nights ago my child was crying while eating a cashew and he had a long coughing episode after that. Since then he has mild, occasional wheezing. He is sleeping and eating well and he has no cold or runny nose. Could this wheezing still be from a small cashew piece stuck in the airway? Do we need any tests to rule out foreign body aspiration?”

Age is very important if age is more baby will expell. Sudden onset, no cough before that? Over diagnosis is better than under diagnosis, consult paediatrician for auscultation and x ray

Hello, I understand your concern Your child seems stable, but because the symptoms started immediately after choking on a cashew, it’s safest to get a pediatric examination to rule out a small retained foreign body.
Next Steps
I recommend getting your child examined once by a Pediatrician. Based on the chest examination, the doctor may advise: Chest X-ray (first step) If suspicion is still high → CT scan / bronchoscopy (not always needed)
Health Tips
Red flags: Fast breathing Noisy breathing or persistent wheeze Recurrent coughing spells Difficulty feeding or vomiting after coughing Child appears tired or dull

This is Dr Mathumitha, Paediatrician to help you out. I can totally understand your concern. If there was a long coughing episode while eating a cashew there is definitely a need to rule out aspiration. Child might be normal sometimes and have wheezing the other time due to migration of foreign body. It's Better to consult a pediatrician, get your child examined and proceed with a chest xray.
Next Steps
Chest xray based on examination findings
