Hello Doctor,iam 19weeks pregnant and I have hypothyroidism since 2013.At that time my weight was 59 now 95kgs.Some one told that due to iodine deficiency thyroid occurred.so how much amount of iodine do I need to consume every day.iam a vegetarian.please suggest iodine supplements.

Nowadays iodine deficiency is not the cause for hypothyroidism as most of the food we consume especially salt contains iodine. There are other causes for hypothyroidism and most commonly it is due to autoimmune disease such as thyroiditis. Thyroid replacement needs to be continued as suggested by your doctor. You need not worry about iodine if you are using iodized salt
