Taxim 50 mg for 11 month baby UTI
Dear doctor, My baby had UTI when she was 8 month old and after urine test doctor prescribed taxim 50mg for 15 days (5ml twice a day). She had the symptoms of putting finger while peeing, frequent short pees and multiple times she used to do that until she feels comfort. No infection seen outside. She was fine after given antibiotic treatment but now she is 11 month old and she starts putting finger while peeing and I think she is getting irritated again.no complaints on urine count and volume. I don't wanna take her out hospital in this pandemic.is it ok if I can give the same antibiotic for 3 days . I know without doctor recommendation we shouldn't do this but please suggest what else could be done.?

Get her urine test for routine and culture get done. No need to start antibiotics like this. Give her seitz bath, plenty of fluids. Get her pelvic area examined, sometimes in females they have vaginal synachae.

Do not give antibiotics without confirming infection. You can get done Urine R/M and Urine Culture from a lab that collects samples from home. After getting reports, we can decide on antibiotics. Never give antibiotics without consulting a Pediatrician. They are different for each infection, depends on the age of the baby, site of infection, culture reports. Moreover, the dose and duration needs to be adjusted according to the weight of the baby and culture reports. If a child is getting a recurrent Urinary tract infection, it is essential to get an ultrasound done to see the involvement of kidneys.

You should not give her antibiotics like this .Have u done urine culture at the time of previous episode .Repeated urinary infections are a matter of concern at this age .You should get her urine examined not only for routine butbfor culture too.And antibiotics should be given according to the culture report .
