Taking bath everytime I poop is necesary
I want to know is it really necessary to take bath everytime I poop or is it just my OCD? Actually, I have a habit of taking bath whenever I go to poop. I feel gross siting on the commode while pooping due to which I immediately take bath. That's why I wanted to clear my doubt, if it's really important to take bath everytime I poop or is it simply my OCD?

Hi, The key clue in your description is the strong feeling of disgust, discomfort, and urgency to bathe immediately to feel “clean” or relieved. When bathing is done to reduce anxiety or a sense of contamination, rather than for practical hygiene, it is often driven by OCD-related thoughts rather than true necessity. This does not mean you are doing something wrong- it means your mind is pushing you toward a ritual to reduce distress.
Next Steps
• Observe whether skipping or delaying the bath causes significant anxiety or restlessness • If the urge feels compulsive and hard to resist, consult a psychiatrist or psychologist • CBT with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is very effective for contamination-related OCD • Medication may be considered if the behavior is time-consuming or distressing
Health Tips
Giving in to the urge to bathe every time may provide short-term relief, but it can strengthen OCD in the long run. With proper treatment, many people learn to feel clean and calm without repeating rituals. Thank you for bringing this topic Medically and hygienically, it is not necessary to take a full bath every time you poop. Proper cleaning of the anal area with water or tissue is sufficient. When the mind insists that you must bathe immediately to feel “clean” or to reduce discomfort or disgust, and skipping the bath causes anxiety or restlessness, this points more toward a compulsive habit driven by OCD-related contamination fear, not an actual hygiene requirement. In OCD, the relief you feel after bathing reinforces the habit, making the urge stronger over time. Therapy especially CBT with exposure and response prevention helps break this cycle by teaching your brain that discomfort can pass without the ritual. This is very treatable with the right psychological support. Take therapy. You can connect with me on nine two six six seven two six zero six five.
