You said tooth is half broken, swelling. It means tooth is highly infected it can have a periapical pathology or a cyst. X-ray of this tooth is advised. Further treatment plan will be after that.

Please visit your dentist and get a check up done. If the tooth is in the condition where we can save it, you may be advised for root canal treatment else the doctor would ask to remove your teeth. The swelling usually comprises of infection and pus inside so avoiding it will not help. Antibiotics are usually advised for such infection along with pain killers. But without having a look it is impossible to prescribe you the antibiotic. Therefore please visit your dentist.
