Hello doctor,
I wanted to ask about my mother. She has some swelling near her belly button and now the navel looks slightly pushed out. This started about one month ago. At first she had itching there, but now there is only a little swelling and the bulge.
She takes Amlosafe 3D for blood pressure.
Can you please tell us what this could be and what treatment she needs?
Thank you

It could be a type of hernia. We call jt a para-umbilical hernia. She may notice the swelling is more obvious if she coughs.
Get a doctor to examine to confirm this.
Most para-umbilical hernias don’t need any surgical treatment. The only time they need surgery is if they suddenly become painful and or patient develops vomiting due to a loop of bowel getting stuck in it.
All the best.
